Well, we knew this day would come. When we first decided to build an airplane in the garage, out came the measuring tape, and wouldn’t ya know it, we were short a couple feet for the fuselage. Somewhere in the neighborhood of about four feet. or five. Whatever. I think I said something like “Ahh we’ll figure it out.” and I’m pretty sure Bethany said something like “well, we’re going to have to DO something.” Then I’m pretty sure I must’ve said something like “well, we’ll do it later.” I think that I thought that something was magically going to happen, but alas, nothing magic at all. The fuselage is basically just as long as the garage from front to back, and that’s with no engine or tail feathers. We need more space. It’s cramped in there, and with the wings on cradles and the fuse, we won’t even be able to fit the engine on the ground when it shows up. So... Bash a big hole. Here’s the concept. we need more space, and behind the garage is the backyard. perfect. all i need is some sort of structure. Rubbermaid. Then a large hole to get through the back of the garage to the structure. A sawzall, and a circle saw with a masonry blade. Frame up the door with some 4x4s and a little sweaty grunt work, and viola. instant extra space. sort of. it’s a bit of a work in progress, but it’ll allow us to fit the aircraft with the engine on it. sweet.
