Today, we cut out some parts of the console where there will be acrylic panels that hold the overhead lights and the air vents.  it’ll make sense sometime.  whatever, I needed to make progress, and nothing says progress like a hole with seemingly no reason.  hehe.  after we did that, we got set to make the hardpoints in the cabin top for the mounting pad for the seatbelt.  yea - sounds ridiculous.  it’s basically following the instructions at inertialbelts website.  The gist of it is that you’re cutting through only the inside layer of glass, then you clear out the core material, then you mix up some structural epoxy (we used chopped fibers and cab-o-sil) and fill them in.  each aluminum mounting pad is secured to the cabin top by four screws, then there will be the seatbelt mount bolt in the center.  it’s basically so i can have retractable 3-point seatbelts in the rear without having to use the cable-through-the-bulkhead-attached-to-the-longeron setup.  it’s gonna be neato.  to drill just through the inside layer of glass to the core, i used a wood hole cutter thingy to make the hole.  I had a hole saw as well, but i figured i’d try this first.  worked like a charm.  then used the dremel to clean out the core material, then vacuumed to get ready to epoxy.  mix, slather, and wait for curing.  after this is cured, i’ll lay some glass over top of this.  done for the day tho.  time for pizza!
