Well, in the quest to have a super cool techie plane, we decided it would be best if the rear seat passengers could watch movies en route, so I started trying to figure out how to go about it.  I really wanted the screens to be in the headrests of the front seats, as that’s the most natural viewing angle for the rear seat passengers, but dang, there’s not a ton of room in the seat frame.  I really needed to sort this out though, because the lead time on the seat upholstery at Classic Aero is like 14 weeks or something crazy like that.  I looked at seat-back video monitors, but they were all too deep, and to big dimensionally.  I also wanted the screens to be the 16x9 widescreen versions, and that really made them too big.  anyway, it’s mostly the other junk they put into the seatback monitors that makes them too big (like the audio jack, buttons, etc.) so i went looking at raw LCD modules.  I found one from a company called Accellevision that looked good.  I couldn’t really find a good poop sheet on them, but I took a chance that they’d fit, and ordered a couple 5.8 inch versions.  they ended up being a perfect fit at 1” deep and 6” by 4”.  They also have a little remote membrane keypad for the controls.  Cool.  Now we just needed to sort out the mounting in a way that would fit the screens after the upholstery of the seats.  We basically just copied the aluminum piece on the headrest front for the back, match drilled them to the headrest, and made the cutout for the monitor.  I’m not too sure about the thickness of the upholstery on the seat back, so I’ll basically just build a faceplate and mount the LCD to that, and screw it into the recess on the mounting that I made.  Looks like it’ll be perfect!
