I saw where others had made a shelf in the tailcone, and thought I’d do it too.  it seems like a good place for stuff that you want in the plane, but don’t want taking up space in the baggage area.  i’m thinking of things like some lightweight survival gear, or a garden gnome.  you know, something useful.  since it’s so far back there, it can’t be very heavy or you’ll find yourself with excessively aft CG, but for something like a hat or sleeping bag, it should prove useful.  we’ll see.  i’m making the thing out of .062 angle, and some sheet that I had.  i’ll also make stiffeners so that the shelf resembles the baggage floor.  some head scratching ensued immediately after starting the project, but then i got down to work.  it’s really just three lengths of angle, supported on the longerons.  i’m questioning myself on whether the thing will be stiff enough, but i think when i get the stiffeners on there, it’ll be fine.
