Phew! I did a bunch of work on behalf of the tailcone shelf, and i kind of re-designed it along the way. it didn’t start out very awesome, but now it is. sweet. I don’t have any pics of all the work along the way, but here’s the final install. First, I had to install the piece that seals off the bulkhead aft of the shelf so stuff doesn’t fall down back there. I stuck a stiffener along the back of the piece so it’d be nice and tight with no oil-canning. I rethought my support at the center front of the shelf, as my first idea was pretty weak. Hard to explain, really, but the pictures show sort of how it goes together. now it’s plenty strong. I used some J-channel stiffener that i had around to make stiffeners for the shelf. been awhile since i back-riveted anything, but it’s still as easy as ever! I also back-riveted the center angle support. easy. also, I must’ve been thinking that day, because I put nutplates at regular intervals, so i could easily make tie-downs or rings for a little cargo net or something. i figure, anything back there needs to be well secured, and this’ll save a ton of head-scratching later. you can kind of see that i put nutplates across the front support angle, and the baggage area bulkhead screws to it. to make the hinged panel, I had ordered another of the corrugated panels, and joined them with some hinge. i haven’t cut out the profile of the overhead console into the panel yet, but that shouldn’t be a big deal. oh yea, and my cats like the shade from the cabin top.
